Gunmen Abducts 14 Oil Workers In Rivers
Some unknown gunmen, believed to be militants, on Friday, September 2, 2016, abducted 14 staff members of Nestoil Plc in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, ONELGA, of Rivers State.
The incident occurred along Omoku /Elele road, when the oil workers were returning from work to their base in Port Harcourt.
It was gathered that the company bus conveying the workers to their office in Port Harcourt was accosted by heavily armed men, adding that the oil workers were diverted to an unknown destination at gunpoint, reports the Daily Sun.
When contacted, the Rivers Police command spokesperson, Omoni Nnamdi, a deputy superintendent of police, confirmed the incident, saying, they had recovered the bus.
Nnamdi said police detectives had intensified efforts to track down the hoodlums and rescue the victims.
“We are combing the bush in that area. Our men are all over the bush. We are on top of the matter; we are doing our best to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers”, he said.
