Woman shares her father's racist letter on Twitter after he threatened to disown her for dating a black man.

Image
A young woman has publicly shamed her racist father after he sent a letter saying her family would leave her homeless and never speak to her again if she continued to date a black man. Stephanie Hicks from Keller, Texas, shared the vile note on Twitter in which she was told she had 'disrespected her family in every way' by having a boyfriend with a different skin colour to her. The dad, who claimed to be a Christian, gave her a final ultimatum - saying there were three empty suitcases waiting for her belongings to be packed in if she stayed with her partner, called Nike. He wrote: 'While it may not be anti-biblical, I know I will never accept it, and I’ll never forgive you. My belief is that interracial relationships are despicable. Vulgar and reprehensible. 'There’s nothing worse than a half-black, and I’m crushed that my own daughter has entered into such a disgusting relationship.' He went on to say that if he chose Nike 'over her family' he never wa

Air Force Chief’s wife, Amosu, returns stolen N381m to FG.

Image
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered N381m from Mrs. Omolara Amosu, the wife of the immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu. Sources within the EFCC said on Saturday that the money was recovered in three tranches: N180m, N101m and N100m. The detective told our correspondent that the money was traced from the account of the Nigeria Air Force to the bank accounts of a company in which Amosu’s wife is a director. He added that Amosu’s wife is a signatory to the accounts. He said, “We recovered N381m from Amosu’s wife, Omolara. Initially, we recovered N180m from her account before another N101m and then N100m. These were monies transferred from Air Force accounts.” Explaining how the money was diverted, the detective added, “They (Air Force officers) sent the money to an account where their wives have interests or are signatories without doing anything.” A second source within the EFCC told our correspondent that more properties belonging

Dangerous Slide: Naira Crashes Down To N400 To A Dollar

Image
Nigeria’s naira extended its fall to a record low of N400/$ on the black market on Thursday as demand for the U.S. currency increased amid a plunge in crude oil prices and foreign exchange restrictions by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Business Day reports. “The naira is being killed with it trading at N400/$ in the parallel market. We have wrongly legitimised the parallel market,” said Bola Onadele Koko, CEO of FMDQ OTC exchange in response to BusinessDay’s questions. “We need to design a new Framework anchored on reduced significance of the parallel market, a single FX market, renewed inflows and CBN’s naira support through futures hedging. We need to move fast before we have bigger macro issues.” Nigeria’s Central Bank stopped selling foreign exchange to Bureau de Change dealers last month, the latest in a series of controls aimed at supporting the naira at a fixed peg of N197-N199 per dollar on the official interbank market since March last year. Africa’s biggest oil pr

What Is 16 + 6? Nigeria’s Finance Minister Appears To Not Know Simple Maths.

Image
Nigeria’s finance minister, London trained accountant, Kemi Adeosun has been trending on Facebook for a gaffe she made at a press briefing. A video shared by Oak TV on YouTube shows Ms. Adeosun throwing accusations of graft at an unnamed examination body in Nigeria. She said that the agency budgeted N6 billion for its expenses in 2015, and made N16 billion as income, but reported N3 million. In the process, Adeosun added N6 billion and N16 billion and said it was N24 billion. Social media users were quick to point out that the correct answer is actually N22 billion. Gaffe, slip-of-tongue, brain freeze, honest mistake? Whatever! But, we can’t help noticing that she was talking about the Joint Matriculation Board (JAMB) and that this may be the next #DasukiGate, given the anti-corruption focus of the Buhari government. Adeosun is a chartered accountant who has served as commissioner of Finance in Ogun State.

Dele Momodu: It’s Certainly Time To End The Blame Game And Get To Work.

Fellow Nigerians, let us start today’s epistle with a real life story. Some years ago, a woman named Dr Kema Chikwe was appointed Minister of Aviation. Her mandate was to bring sanity to our insane airports across the country. It was as if we were a jinxed nation and nothing good could ever come out of our rudderless system. Dr. Chikwe set out on her mission like Henry the Navigator. She mapped out her strategy meticulously and elaborately. Our airports were as hot as hell. All efforts to tranquilise the place and make it habitable for passengers proved abortive but Dr. Chikwe was determined to succeed where others had failed miserably and woefully. At the beginning of her voyage, Dr. Chikwe was supposedly rattled by a negative story that was aired on a British television describing the Lagos airport as one of the worst in the world. The problem wasn’t just about its aesthetic ugliness, the airport was totally invaded and ravaged by port rats who specialised in pilfering peoples bags

US election 2016: Trump wins South Carolina, as Clinton takes Nevada

Image
Donald Trump has won the South Carolina primary in the Republican race for president, cementing his status as the man to beat for his party's nomination. In the Democratic contest, Hillary Clinton beat Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in a tight race in Nevada. Both results will be key ahead of the "Super Tuesday" round on 1 March, when a dozen more states make their choice. The Trump victory claimed a major scalp when former Florida Governor Jeb Bush dropped out of the race. He finished a distant fourth, days after his brother, former President George W Bush, made a rare political appearance to boost his flagging campaign. Republican senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio were locked in a battle for second place in the state. FROM BBC.

Jeb Bush Bows Out of Campaign, Humbled and Outmaneuvered.

Image
Jeb Bush dropped out of the presidential race on Saturday, ending a quest for the White House that started with a war chest of $100 million, a famous name and a promise of political civility but concluded with a humbling recognition: In 2016, none of it mattered. No single candidacy this year fell so short of its original expectations. It began with an aura of inevitability that masked deep problems, from Mr. Bush himself, a clunky candidate in a field of gifted performers, to the rightward drift of the Republican Party since Mr. Bush’s time as a consensus conservative in Florida. “I’m proud of the campaign that we’ve run to unify our country,” Mr. Bush said, his eyes moist, in an emotional speech here Saturday night after his third straight disappointing finish in the early voting states. “The people of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina have spoken, and I really respect their decision.” “We’ve had enough Bushes,” his mother, Barbara Bush, observed prophetically before he

Ex-Nigerian Ambassador To The UK Tafida Quits PDP

Image
The immediate past Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and founding member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Dalhatu Sarki Tafida today dumped the party. Tafida, who headed victorious former President Goodluck Jonathan's presidential campaign in 2011, said, PDP market in Nigeria's politics is over, and no sensible man will remain in a market that has closed shop. Speaking in a special BBC Hausa interview monitored in Lagos, Tafida, who is from Kaduna state said there is no more respect for the party. "I have decided to leave PDP, and I will not join another party. I left because there is no focus, if a market is over, a responsible man should go home. Now the market is over. It was good in the past, but now it is the worst, with impunity and confusion. "The party has been destroyed and reduced to nothing, and I have decided to dump the party. I don't think our stay in the party is wise, because the people now abuse everyone, and no

Mother of bread seller-turned-model tells Saturday Tribune in Iree: When she was leaving for Lagos, I prayed God would bring helpers to her.

Mrs Ramota Kamorudeen, a vegetable seller at Obada market in Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, is the mother of Olajumoke Orisagunna, a bread seller in Lagos who recently shot to fame courtesy of ace singer and photographer, T. Y. Bello. In this interview with Saturday Tribune’s OLUWOLE IGE, Mrs Kamorudeen bares her mind on her daughter’s sudden transformation. Excerpts: How did you receive the news of your daughter becoming a celebrity overnight? I was very happy when I heard. It is a thing of joy that my daughter has become an important person in life. Was there previously a sign or prophecy that Olajumoke would be great in life? There was no sign and we did not receive any prophecy from a pastor or alfa that she would become famous in the future. What I have always known, however, is that only God has the power to change a person’s status from nothing to something. What did you discuss with her before she left for Lagos where fortune eventually smiled on her?

Sex Tips For Overly Busy People.

Make Any Day Special Kristina Wright, author of Bedded Bliss: A Couple’s Guide to Lust Ever After, points out that you don’t have to wait for anniversaries or birthdays to have so-called special sex. Any day can be special, including the anniversary of the first time you made out, the day you've finally potty trained your youngest child, or just because it’s Tuesday. "Whatever it takes, whenever you can manage it, celebrate this crazy, messy, busy life you’ve created together — celebrate any time you can,” Wright says. Get Out Of The House It’s tempting to just bunker down and stay in when the weather starts to get chilly, but the problem is that your home has so many things that distract you from alone time: dishes, kids, computers, and even the television. Find a way to physically remove yourself from the things that keep you from making time for each other. Try checking into a nearby hotel for a night or even a local Airbnb spot. Buhari's Budget Riddled With Errors Puts Graft War in Doubt

Rent for presidential residence among items in the budget President Buhari has proposed a record 6.1 trillion naira plan Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2016 budget proposals are riddled with errors and provisions that may undermine his anti-graft war, civic groups say. In some instances, the same purchase of vehicles, computers and furniture are replicated 24 times, totaling 46.5 billion naira ($234 million), 795 million naira is set aside to update the website of one ministry, while no purpose is assigned to a 10 billion naira provision in the education ministry’s spending plan, according to Oluseun Onigbinde, partner and co-founder of BudgIT, a Nigerian group that campaigns for transparency in public spending. “The key line items you find in the budget are a disservice to the idea that this government has come to represent change,” Onigbinde, whose group first publicly raised the discrepancies, said in a Feb. 9 phone interview. “It would have been better that they took a

She claimed her appointment was made through newspaper and was constrained to make the rejection via the same medium. However, she pledged her continue support for Buhari and his administration. The advert reads: I, Najatu Muhammad, wishes to thank you so much for considering me worthy of being appointed the chairperson of Dutse Federal University. Supreme Court gives reasons for upholding Udom Emmanuel’s election as Akwa Ibom governor.

Image
The Supreme Court on Monday gave reasons for affirming Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party as the validly elected governor of Akwa Ibom State. Justice Chima Nweze, who gave the reasons, said the decision of the lower court was a mis-judgment based on only facts and not on the provisions of the laws. Mr. Nweze said the decisions of the lower court was based on the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the use of card readers for the election. He further held that the lower court denied the governor fair hearing. “From the study of the evidence brought before us, Udom Emmanuel won the highest lawfully cast votes. “This has placed the court to set aside the judgments of the two lower courts as the other parties challenging his victory could prove otherwise. “The lower courts were wrong to have cancelled elections in 18 and subsequently the entire 31 Local Government Areas of the state on the basis of non-compliance. “While we commend the in

I have been using foreign doctors since 1978 – President BuhariRead .

Image
President Muhammad Buhari has indicted the Nigerian healthcare system when he confessed that he has been receiving medical care in the United Kingdom since 1978. Several trusted news sources have reported that President Buhari is currently in the United Kingdom, once again, getting medical attention from his physicians. The Presidency released a news statement yesterday which disclosed that the President would be on vacation in the UK till February 10th. The statement did not allude to any medical treatment of any kind. Recently whilst addressing some Nigerians in the UK, President Buhari disclosed he has been using foreign doctors for over 38 years. Whilst relaying some information relating to his courtroom experience concerning a failed presidential bid, the President said, “The court process during my first attempt at the Presidency lasted 30 months. I only missed four sittings. “One, when we went to bury late Chuba Okadigbo, my vice presidential candidate. “The other three times, I

Buhari Sacks 12 Vcs Of Universities in Nigeria, Appoints Replacements.

The Federal Government has sacked the Vice Chancellors of 12 federal universities established by the Goodluck Jonathan administration. Also affected by the sack is the Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria, Prof. Vincent Tenebe. In the statement announcing the sack, the government gave no reason for the action. A short statement by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu in Abuja, on Saturday, simply said President Muhammadu Buhari, had approved the appointment of new Vice Chancellors for the Universities. But the decision is already generating ripples, with some members of the intelligentsia claiming that it is only the Governing Council of NOUN of which Mr Tenebe is a member, that could only remove him. A human rights organisation, Coalition of Civil Society Groups has protested against the sack in a letter to Buhari, demanding the reversal of the decision in which the NOUN VC was replaced with Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu of the Department of Mass Communication,

“Why didn’t I come when the treasury was full? Oil price was over $140 per barrel and when I came it slipped down to $30. Why me?

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday said that with the quantum of problems his administration inherited, he sometimes wondered why he had to seek power at this time. Buhari spoke in London while addressing members of the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom. Our correspondent obtained a transcript of the President’s address to the gathering on Friday. Buhari said he wondered why oil, which used to sell for over $140 per barrel, would reduce to $30 per barrel during his time as the President. Notwithstanding the problem, however, Buhari said he kept praying to God to be merciful to the over 170 million Nigerians who are exposed to poverty, illiteracy and other social ills. He said, “With the problems we have in this government, I sometimes wonder. At least, this time around, I asked for it, I prayed for it, I went round the country and I asked for it. But the first time under the military, I allowed the military to take decision. “But I say why me? Why is it that it is when t
