Secretary to Government counters El-Rufai’s claim Jonathan spent N64bn on independence anniversaries

Image
Contrary to recent claims by the Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration spent billions on Nigeria’s independence anniversary celebrations between 2011 and 2014, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has confirmed that the governor lied. Following the decision by President Muhummadu Buhari to approve only N70 million for the 55th Independence anniversary celebrations on October 1, 2015, Mr. El-Rufai had sparked a controversy with his claim that the immediate past administration wasted N64 billion on the same event in five years. The governor had given a breakdown of the purported outrageous expenditures on his Facebook page as follows: N13 billion spent in 2011; N15 billion in 2012; N14 billion in 2013, and N22 billion in 2014. Associates of the former president, including the immediate past Minister of National Planning, Abubakar Suleiman, had kicked at Mr. El-Rufai’s claims, dismissing them as “blat

“You look sleepy” “My brother, let’s just say I slept at a fuel station, looking for fuel.” “For which of the women in your life, because I hear these days, to please a woman in Nigeria, you must be ready to supply the three major things lacking in the land: money, fuel, and happiness.” “Leave that matter, please. EFCC Arrests ‘Pastor’ For N200 Million Fraud.

Image
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), has arrested one Jonathan Ibinabo Alatoru, a self-acclaimed pastor and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Chemtronics Nigeria Limited, for conspiracy, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N200 million. The suspect, who had earlier jumped the administrative bail granted him by the Commission, was arrested by operatives of EFCC in a sting operation on Thursday, November 26, 2015, in Abuja. The 55-year-old suspect had been awarded a contract by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Abuja for the construction of a skill acquisition centre at Igualeba, Orhiomwon LGA, in Edo State, to the tune of N1.7billion. The contract, which was supposed to be completed within a year, was, however, terminated in 2011 when he could not complete the structure 18 months after. All Progressives Congress Party Picks Yahaya Bello As Audu’s Replacement.

Image
After extensive consultations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday submitted the name of Yahaya Bello as the party’s new candidate for Kogi governorship supplementary poll. Bello replaces Prince Abubakar Audu, who died last weekend after leading the poll with 41,000. It was also learnt that the APC has retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as the party’s deputy governorship candidate. Mohammed Audu, the son of the late governorship candidate, was dumped by the party because the party felt that fielding him might vitiate the entire governorship poll in the state. But the people of Kogi West were mounting pressure on Faleke yesterday not to accept the nomination of Bello. Although they asked Faleke to withdraw from the race, the deputy governorship candidate was yet to make up his mind on the next step at press time. Investigation by our correspondent revealed that APC leaders, with the backing of some forces in the Presidency, opted for Bello because he came second in t

Court of Appeal nullifies election of ex-senate president David Mark; orders rerun

Image
A Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State has nullified the election of former senate president, David Mark. The Makurdi division of the Court of Appeal on Saturday, ordered a re-run of the poll within 90 days. The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Benue South, Mr Donald Onjeh had challenged the decision of the National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which upheld the victory of Senator Mark of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mr Onjeh’s lawyer, Adetunji Oso, also urged the Appellate Court to allow his appeal and set aside the decision of the Tribunal. He said the court erred when it held that the papers tendered by his client were mere documentary hearsay. The documents, according to Mr Oso, demonstrated that while the collation of results for the Benue South senatorial district’s election on March 28 was still ongoing in seven of the nine local government areas, the Independent National Electoral Commission (I

Does Muhammadu Buhari Have A Conscience At All?, Femi Fani-Kayode Asks

Image
I concur with Mr. Deji Adeyanju. The most heartless and reprehensible thing that our government could have done is to cover-up the fact that 105 of our soldiers were killed by Boko Haram a few days ago. To do such a thing is simply evil. A soldier ought to be honored in death and this is especially so if he dies in the course of doing his duty and fighting for his nation. The government has not only dishonored them by not acknowledging their sacrifice but they have also buried them in the wilderness like rabid dogs. This is wickedness of the highest order and President Buhari, his Chief of Army Staff and his Minister of Defense should bury their heads in shame. Anyone that buys the lie and propaganda that the 105 soldiers never died and that they are still alive is a compound fool or village idiot. Will the military also deny the fact that a few days ago 34 of our soldiers were killed by Boko Haram? These boys died for their country. Why deny them? I am outraged by the fact that

Buhari’s six months of deceitful change – Fayose

Image
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described the last six months of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration as that of “deceitful change,” lamenting that the President was destroying the image of Nigeria and its people for cheap international recognition. The governor, who also described the claim by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun that the ministry do not have details of any fund recovered from officials of the immediate past government of Dr Goodluck Jonathan as a vindication of his position that the President was not saying the truth, said Nigerians must ask the President where the so-called looted fund was paid and who made the payments. He said; “If the Ministry of Finance is not aware of any recovered fund, it is either those who purportedly made the refund did so by loading cash into Ghana-Must-Go bags and dropping the bags in the President’s bedroom or the fund was lodged into the Central Bank without records Speaking through his Special Assistant o

Dele Momodu writes Buhari, says Nigerians are lamenting.

Your Excellency, it’s been months since I wrote my desperate memo to you. I wish to thank you once more for reacting promptly and swiftly at that time and for giving me the honour and privilege of meeting you in your office. I remember presenting you a special compilation of my articles, especially the many admonitions to your immediate predecessor, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. After handing over the book to you, Sir, I promised to continue acting in my self-appointed capacity as Special Adviser because of the need to tell you what those very close to you might not be able to say. They might be afraid of you and your reaction. laide The truth is you are a plain and simple man imbued with a mission and a passion to save this great country but you cannot do it on your own. You can only do it if people close to you, who should be advising you, tell you as it is so that you can do that which you were elected to do. Sir, it is on the above basis that I’m back today for reasons s

10 Reasons To Make Sex With Your Spouse A Daily Ritual

Image
These days, everyone's to-do list is a mile long. Trying to squeeze sex into an already tight schedule seems next-to-impossible sometimes. But for married couples who get it on regularly, the payoff can be substantial. We recently asked a group of sexperts to tell us the benefits of having sex with your spouse on a near-daily basis. Read what they had to say below: 1. It sparks your bedroom creativity. "Having sex every day can get you and your partner out of whatever sexual rut or routine you may have fallen into, and can spark more experimentation as well as more direct conversations about what works and what doesn't," psychologist and dating coach Samantha Rodman told The Huffington Post. "After all, you're not going to want to do the exact same thing seven nights a week." 2. It's a way for you to connect -- just the two of you. "As our lives become increasingly busy (kids! career! Netflix binges!), it has become vital that my husband

Image
Cheating on your partner, it would seem, has become an accepted part of having a relationship, but it shouldn’t be. Cheating hurts and it betrays a trust, and there really is no excuse for it. But, cheating is often a symptom of a deeper problem in a relationship, so here we explore some of the things that can be done to prevent cheating in a relationship: 1. Understand and agree on the boundaries What constitutes cheating can vary from person to person. Is it OK to dance with another person, kiss a person or give them a hug? Buhari’s Policies Destroying Nigeria’s Economy And Annoying Investors – Bloomberg

Image
When Muhammadu Buhari clinched victory in Nigeria’s presidential elections in March, stocks soared as investors looked to the former military ruler to reverse decades of economic mismanagement and policy inertia. Now hopes have fizzled in his ability to turn around Africa’s largest economy and oil producer. Money that flowed into stocks and bonds in the West African nation, which McKinsey & Co. says could become one of the world’s 20 biggest economies by 2030, is now fleeing as growth prospects diminish along with oil prices. While Buhari, 72, has prioritized stamping out the graft that has plagued Nigeria since independence from Britain in 1960, policy-making appears as uncertain and haphazard as ever. “After the initial euphoria, people have become disillusioned,” Ayodele Salami, who oversees about $500 million of African equities as chief investment officer of London-based Duet Asset Management Ltd., said by phone. “He would probably say that he’s being deliberative and caut
