Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor showdown confirmed for August 26 in Las Vegas .

Floyd Mayweather has named the date. Conor McGregor has been raring to go for weeks.
The biggest hybrid fight of all time will take place in Las Vegas on August 26.
It may well be that the hype will surpass the occasion but with his customary, control-freak timing, Mayweather has ensured another multi-million dollar extravaganza on that famous Strip.

Whether the boxing purists take to the notion or not, this will be the biggest grossing event in the history of combat sports since Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao finally got it together to the tune of more than half a billion dollars between them.
Although this will be The Notorious Irishman's first orthodox boxing match and Mayweather will go into this cross between a fist fight and a circus spectacle, the Nevada State Athletic Commission have assured their Mr Money that all the relevant licenses and approvals will be forthcoming.
Not surprising that, since the casino drop from high rollers and sports punters will guarantee a bonanza for everyone,.

Mayweather is on a minimum certainty of $100million (£78m), plus the upside on high sales by Showtime, the major US cable network.
McGregor's share of the bounty is thought to be in the region of $80m (£62m) but a percentage of that will go to the UFC, his paymasters in his customary field of action mixed martial arts.
UFC president Dana White told ESPN: 'We've been in negotiations now for a while and to be honest the negotiation went smooth. We got the thing done.
'The impossible deal is now done.'
White said the fight would be at 154lbs - light middleweight - and added: 'It'll be in a ring, it's a boxing event.
'Conor McGregor is a guy who's done a lot of good things over here for the sport and this company and he wanted this and the fans wanted it too.
'I talked to Conor McGregor this morning. He is absolutely 100 per cent positive that he wins this fight and I stopped doubting Conor McGregor a long time ago.
'Floyd Mayweather is 40 years old, he's always had problems with southpaws. Conor McGregor is 27 and he is a southpaw. Whenever Conor hits people, they fall.
'I'm not saying Conor McGregor's going to win. I'm not saying Floyd Mayweather's going to win. But the reason Conor McGregor's as big as he is is he'll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. He will go after Floyd Mayweather and he will try to knock him out.'

Mayweather, as astute a politician as he is a boxing genius, has timed the event to somewhat upstage his old adversary Oscar de la Hoya's staging of Mexican idol Canelo Alvarez against middleweight knockout supremo Gennady Golovkin.
De la Hoya stole the Mexico independence weekend date of September 16, when Mayweather has always preferred one of his two matches a year so as to draw large crowds across the border.
The Vegas casinos have their own take on how competitive the fight is likely to be, or otherwise. They quote Mayweather as an 1-8 favourite.
McGregor, at an outsider's 5-1, insists that he has always been a knockout rather than a kick over and grapple UFC man and has been in strict boxing training now for more than two months.

'This is really an unprecedented event,' said Stephen Espinoza, who heads Showtime Sports, which will handle the pay-per-view. 'Really we haven't seen anything in modern history that resembles it, it's impossible to predict how many sales this will do.'
Espinoza said the fight came together quickly after McGregor and the UFC reached agreement last month on their end of the deal and Mayweather's team pushed for the fight in recent days.
'All parties were motivated and reasonable and thrilled we could get everything done,' he said. 'The sky's the limit on this.'
