Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg Visits Lagos, Nigeria

Image
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is visiting Nigeria this week on his first trip to Africa, using his time in the country to visit the Yaba technology hub in Lagos, meet with developers and partners, and explore Nollywood. Zuckerberg is in Nigeria to listen and learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa. One of his first stops on the trip was to visit a ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, known as the Silicon Valley of Nigeria. CcHub opened in 2011 and at the time didn’t even have an office. Five years later they fill three floors and the roof of a building. At CcHub people can learn how to code, developers can get help launching their first products, and find mentors and funding. At CcHub Zuckerberg met with developers like Temi Giwa, who runs a platform called Life Bank that makes blood available when and where it is needed in Nigeria. ‘Nigeria Is Not Your Property’ – Niger Delta Avengers Write Open Letter To Buhari

Image
The leading militant group operating in the oil rich region of southern Nigeria, the Niger Delta Avengers, has written an open letter to Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari accusing him on planning genocide in the Niger Delta. The Delta Avengers reminded the president that they have ceased hostilities and offered to dialogue and were waiting on the Nigerian government to put talks in motion. Hence, the group wondered why Buhari would threaten them in Kenya saying, “We will deal with them as we dealt with Boko Haram if they refuse to talk to us.” The letter, published on Avengers’ website on Monday, August 29, 2016, warned President Buhari of the consequences of genocide in the Niger Delta, saying that “the world will applaud you at The Hague”. This letter comes on the heels of Buhari threatening to deal with the militants in the region as he dealt with Boko Haram at the Tokyo conference on African development in Kenya over the weekend. “We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to p...

Buhari Agrees To Swap Boko Haram Prisoners For Chibok Girls

Image
Ngeria’s President has again renewed his commitment to the rescue of the Chibok girls, saying government will not give up in the search. Commenting on this via Twitter on Sunday, President Muhammadu Buhari paid glowing tributes to the military for their efforts in the war against insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast. The President also said he is willing to swap Boko Haram prisoners for the Chibok girls. But that is on condition that they are able to list those they want released and then come out to discuss with the Federal Government. He says the Federal Government will want the girls out safe without any harm done to them. Recently, the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners had called on the President to accept the swap of the Boko Haram prisoners for the Chibok girls who were kidnapped in Borno State two years ago. The President was in Nairobi, Kenya for the African economic summit which dwells on diversification and advancement of African economies. Full text of the President’s s...

I feel guilty for cheating on my fiancé with plumber… but he gave me my first orgasm.

Image
I’VE had my first orgasm cheating on my fiancé. I felt alive but hate myself for doing it. I am 23 and my fiancé is 27. We have been together for just over a year and it’s been a rollercoaster relationship for most of that time. I am not sure if my fiancé only got with me because I got pregnant very early on in our relationship and I desperately wanted to keep our baby. We now have a beautiful baby boy and we love him so much, but what relationship we did have has deteriorated severely over the months. My fiancé is a lovely guy in many ways but I am not sure we are really right for each other. It’s been a massive change for me to go from working full-time to being at home with a baby. I love our little boy but my fiancé seems to think I should be happy now just because I’m a mum. A few weeks ago I was feeling pretty neglected when I shared a kiss and a little bit more with an older male friend. He is 34, a friend of my big brother and I have known him for years. He has his own ...

We will deal with Niger Delta militants like we dealt with Boko Haram – Buhari

Image
The Nigerian government will treat Niger Delta armed fighters as terrorists and deal with them in a similar manner to Boko Haram unless they agree to negotiate, President Muhammadu Buhari has said. Mr. Buhari, whose government has succeeded in taming the Boko Haram insurgents and largely limited their activities to Borno State, said this in Kenya according to his spokesperson, Garba Shehu. Armed militants in the Niger Delta region have claimed responsibility for several attacks on oil and gas installations that have reduced Nigeria’s oil output by half and worsened the electricity situation in the country. A group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which claimed responsibility for most of the attacks, recently indicated its willingness to negotiate with the government. It asked that an elder statesman from the region, Edwin Clark, be part of the negotiation team that should also include officials of relevant multinational oil companies. While speaking at a bilateral meeting with Japanese ...

FRENCH COURT OVERTURNS 'BURKINI' BAN

Image
France’s highest court has suspended a ban on the “burkini” in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, in a decision likely to lead to the overturn of 30 more such bans in towns across France. The French League of Human Rights this week asked that the Council of State, a top French court, overturn the ban. The Council of State’s judgment, released Friday afternoon, quashed the earlier ruling of a Nice court that on August 22 said the ban was legal. The Council of State judgment said that the ban had breached “fundamental freedoms.” Human rights league lawyer Patrice Spinosi told reporters that the decision should set a precedent, and that other mayors should conform to it, the Associated Press reported. Amnesty International welcomed the decision, saying in a statement: “By overturning a discriminatory ban that is fueled by and is fueling prejudice and intolerance, today’s decision has drawn an important line in the sand.” The bans, put in place throughout August by local authorities cit...

He joins the coaching team of Roberto Martinez, who replaced Marc Wilmots at the start of August. "Thierry is an important figure," said former Everton boss Martinez. "He will bring something different. He agreed right away to join us." Henry, 39, tweeted: "Honoured to be assistant coach, very excited, can't wait." Henry will work alongside Graeme Jones, who served with Martinez at Swansea, Wigan and Everton. Martinez also named his first senior squad on Friday, ahead of their friendly against Spain on Thursday 1 September. The Spaniard took over from Wilmots, who was sacked after Belgium were beaten 3-1 by Wales in the quarter-finals of Euro 2016.

New ISIS video shows children executing prisoners, British kids reportedly among them.

Image
A chilling new video from ISIS shows a British boy and four other children executing prisoners in cold blood in Syria. The grotesque nine-minute video is believed to have been recorded recently in the ISIS capital of Raqqa, in Syria, and shows the organisation is becoming even more brutal as it retreats into its heartland. The video shows five boys - believed to be from Britain, Egypt, Turkey, Tunisia and Uzbekistan, wielding handguns and wearing the desert camouflage. One of the youngsters makes a blood-curdling shriek in Arabic and slaps one of the terrified captives on his shaved head before they raise their guns and kill the five men, 'atheist' Kurdish fighters who were captured during a battle. The Sun reported the British boy was identified only as Abu Abdullah al-Britani. He is white, blue-eyed and aged around 12. Abu means 'Son of' in Arabic, which suggests the boy may be the son of Abdullah al-Britani, a young British jihadist who married in Syria and was ...

Image
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has accused the United States government of stoking ethnic and religious divisions in Nigeria, after the U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, visited the Sultan of Sokoto and northern governors. The group said Christians were excluded from Mr. Kerry's visit between Monday and Tuesday. Mr. Kerry travelled to Sokoto where he met the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, who is the head of Nigeria's Muslim community. He later met President Muhammadu Buhari, before meeting governors of northern states. In an interview with journalists on Thursday, CAN said Mr. Kerry's visit was "discriminatory, personal and divisive". The group said Mr. Kerry should stop interfering in the internal affairs of the country, alleging that the visit was aimed at furthering the federal government's plan to continue to persecute the teeming population of Nigerian Christians. The president of CAN, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, said Mr. Kerry's ...

Secretary to Northern CAN, Rev. Danladi Yerima, confirmed on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, that his group had scheduled an emergency meeting to deliberate on the state of the nation, especially as it affects the Church in Nigeria, with a view to finding solutions to them, Vanguard reports. Image
Nigeria’s currency Naira has crashed to its lowest level ever since the foreign exchange policy, trading at N412/$1 at parallel market on Friday, August 26. The fall of the naira is coming shortly after the suspension of nine banks from the foreign exchange market, hence, making the greenback more difficult to get. According to Reuters on account of local traders, some Bureau de change operators have been finding it difficult to access their forex account and get dollar supply after the central bank suspended nine commercial lenders from the market, putting further pressure on the local currency. The banks were barred for hiding over $2.12 billion belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and failed to remit the funds into the Treasury Single Account, a claim some of them have denied. 17 bitter truths Prof. Soludo told Buhari-led APC govt in Kaduna

Image
Professor Charles Soludo, on Thursday in Kaduna State, took the Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government, to the cleaners detailing what the government must do to take Nigeria to a progressive change. Soludo spoke as a guest lecturer at Kaduna Progressive Governance lecture series with the theme: “Building the economy and developing inclusive sustainable growth.” Below are the 17 hard truths Soludo told APC governors with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in attendance. 1. That the collapse of oil price is a blessing to Nigeria as it presents an opportunity for a new beginning. 2. That the Federal Government should consider ‘loosening of Abuja stranglehold on the states’. 3. That Nigeria can’t experience sustainable and inclusive growth in the face of ‘mass elite discord’ 4. That agriculture might not be a sustainable option for Nigeria’s economy given the disastrous level of poverty and illiteracy in the country. 5. That there is urgent need to Identify...

“You’re a total failure,” APC chieftain slams Buhari,

Image
A factional chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, Hussaini Mairiga, on Monday came down hard on President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the president as a total failure. Mr. Mairiga, who spoke with journalists in Kano, said “from the looks of things President Buhari has betrayed the confidence of the Nigerian masses who voted for him massively into power.” The president, who was elected on the platform of the APC, assumed office on May 29, 2015. The factional chairman said it was not an exaggeration that members of many families in the country go to bed without at least one square meal while others had fled their homes because they could no longer provide the basic needs of life for their loved ones. Mr. Mairiga, who is known for his bluntness, expressed worry that after one year of the Buhari administration in power, there was nothing to show while poverty in the country had reached an unprecedented level. He lamented that while a bag of rice now sold for N16, ...

President Buhari Re-Launches War Against Indiscipline.

Image
The Nigerian government on Monday said it was teaming up with some private individuals to bring back the dreaded War Against Indiscipline previously introduced by Muhammadu Buhari during his military regime between 1983 and 1985. The National Orientation Agency said the brigade would help curb the high rate of “insecurity, violence, kidnapping and other forms of social vices.” Garba Abari, the Director-General of the agency, said this while speaking at the official relaunch of the WAI brigade in Abuja. “It’s great pleasure that I have the opportunity to meet with the leadership of WAI, for the first time since my assumption of office about two months ago. This meeting is meant to discuss the repositioning of the WAI Brigade in the current dispensation of change. “I’m not only delighted with this gathering, but excited with you all for keeping faith and working tirelessly to contribute your quota to nation building as volunteers who are not being paid for over three decades,” Mr. ...

Rio Olympics: Nigeria Beats Sweden, Qualifies For Olympic Quarter Finals

Image
Nigeria’s Dream Team defeated Sweden 1-0 to qualify for the quarter final of the football event of the Rio 2016 Olympics. A 40th minute goal by Umar Sadiq made all the difference for the Samson Siasia side who appear wasteful in front of goals, considering their 5-4 victory over Japan on Thursday. The Dream Team who look more refreshed and prepared than they were in their last game against Japan, found their rhythm right from the kick off and dominated play but could not convert chances. Sadiq Umar finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute via a powerful header that could not be stopped by goalkeeper Andreas Linde. That goal saw the Nigeria take the lead in to the break. After the break, Nigeria continued from where they left off, causing troubles for the defense of the Swedes and John Obi Mikel saw his goal-bound shot parried away by Linde. Sweden’s Adam Lundqvist bagged the first yellow in the 58th minute for a rough tackle on Oghenekaro Etebo after which they made their fir...

An Appeal For The Rehabilitation Of Calabar-Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene Highway - Dr. Amadu Atai

Image
The All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom State has called on the Federal Government to urgently dualise Calabar-Itu highway, as the project had been captured in the 2016 budget. A statement addressed to the Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, and signed by the state Chairman of the party, Dr. Amadu Atai, on Sunday, said the road has become impassable following more than 16 years of total neglect of the thoroughfare. According to him, travelling along the Odukpani-Itu-Ikot Ekpene stretch of the road is now a tortuous and nightmarish experience for Nigerians. He added that the road had become a veritable death trap, saying that many people had lost their lives to accidents on the road. The statement urged the government to take some critical interim and palliative measures by mending the extremely bad sections of the road to ease the travails of commuters, pending the completion of the dualisation of that axis. “Honourable minister, please permit us to respectfully call your atte...

Image

Na’Abba, while fielding questions from newsmen in Kano said Obasanjo was one of the most corrupt Nigerians. He said the former president should explain to Nigerians how he became one of the richest Nigerians after leaving office, when he had virtually nothing before he assumed office. Na’Abba said as speaker of the House of Representatives, he had cause to take Obasanjo on various expenditure offences he committed that the former president could not defend. He said: “Well, I don’t think there is anybody that is more corrupt in this country than the former president. I believe you are talking about former President Olusegun Obasanjo. “As the Speaker, I took Obasanjo on various expenditure offences which he committed, which he could not defend and didn’t show any remorse. In fact, that is wh...

The Height Of Evil Is Witnessing Buhari’s 80s Military Rule And Chanting ‘Change’ In 2015.

Image
The hottest part of hell should be reserved for those who were adults during General Muhammadu Buhari’s short stint as head of state some 3 decades ago and witnessed the disaster he was back then. But, they still went ahead to tell wicked shameless demonic puerile lies, twist history and slap truth on its face just to campaign for a much older and more vindictive Buhari but still very poorly lettered military dictator preside over a 21st Nigeria. People who fall within this class are more dangerous than all the world venomous reptiles combined. Trust me, any man that would wish a calamity like Buhari on even his worst enemy is heartless. Any man that could make his fellow human beings go through a disastrous Buhari government twice in a lifetime is actually capable of the worst evil anyone can think of. No living thing should have to endure a despicable government such as this one once not to talk of twice in a lifetime These people I’m talking about witnessed the economic armaged...

Jose Mourinho started the match with new signing Eric Bailly and Daley Blind manning the defence while Rooney, Lingard and Superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic handled the attack. Leicester City, still basking in the euphoria of being crowned Premier League champions started with a team almost identical to their title winning team of last season with N'golo Kante, who recently signed for Chelsea the major exception, while new boy Ahmed Musa had to make do with a place on the bench. Jesse Lingard, United's FA Cup final match-winner against Crystal Palace in May, gave ...
